Military Service Tax Preparation Project
Free tax return preparation for military personnel serving in combat zones or qualified hazardous duty areas.
The Illinois CPA Society's CPAs for the Public Interest, in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service, offers the Military Service Tax Preparation Project to provide free personal income tax return filing assistance to members of the US Armed Forces who have recently returned or are still serving on active duty in a combat zone or qualified hazardous duty area.
How it Works:
The Illinois CPA Society's CPAs for the Public Interest will match military personnel and/or their family members with CPA volunteers in their area who will provide free personal federal and state income tax filing assistance. Volunteers will help qualified persons take full advantage of tax benefits, exclusions, and filing and payment extensions available to them.
This is a year-round service, and a spouse or family member can request assistance for military personnel still overseas.
Individuals and their families who meet the following criteria qualify for this program:
Individuals who do not have an established client relationship with a CPA tax preparer are encouraged to use this service.
