The Illinois Department of Revenue has issued FY 2023-02 Informational Bulletin entitled Corporate Return Automatic Extension Due Date Change for the Tax Year Ending on December 31, 2021.
Summary: The Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) will allow corporations filing for the tax year ending on December 31, 2021, one extra month beyond the extended federal filing deadline to file their Illinois corporate income tax return by extending the automatic extension by an additional month.

Background:  The Illinois CPA Society requested the director of the Illinois Department of Revenue consider extending the corporate due date to November 15th to allow practitioners ample time to prepare the state corporate returns.  As previously highlighted in Capitol Insight, IDOR proposed amending agency rules moving the extended corporate due date to November 15th as opposed to the current due date of October 15th.
Although IDOR has not completed the formal agency rule adoption process as of this writing, FY 2023-02 Informational Bulletin specifies that the November 15th extended due date will be applied retroactively with respect to the tax year ending December 31, 2021.
ICPAS ADVOCACY:  The Illinois CPA Society expresses our appreciation to Illinois Department of Revenue Director David Harris and staff for initiating this agency amendment.   We are also grateful for stakeholder organization support to make this proposal a reality.
