With the proliferation of social networks from Facebook to Twitter, legal issues have arisen and there are risks you should avoid. In this session, you will learn about the tension between employer access to information on social media for legitimate business reasons verses employee privacy concerns and protections for employees.  You'll also learn about the ever evolving pitfalls in accessing and using information from social media and examine the current legal landscape regarding discovery of evidence from social media.

MAJOR LEARNING SUBJECTS:

  • Discussion of two cases where auditors failed to detect material misstatements due to fraud;
  • Comparisons of professional standards and how auditors failed to meet those standards;
  • Identification and discussion of specific audit procedure deficiencies in detecting material misstatements due to fraud; and
  • Circumstances where auditor skepticism and due professional care contributed to audit failures.
