Before
retiring in 2009, Marilee was KPMG’s National Partner-in-Charge of the Employee
Benefit Audit Practice. Marilee is currently teaching EBP courses and providing
consulting services on EBP accounting and auditing issues to CPA firms
specializing in EBP audits. She is a founding member and a past Chair of the
Executive Committee for the AICPA’s Audit Quality Center for Employee Benefit
Plans, EBP Experts Panel and is currently a subject matter expert for EBP Peer
Review Oversights. Marilee has also served on various task forces of the AICPA
which include the audit guide revisions task force, the ESOP task force and the
Multiemployer task force. She is a past member of the Accounting Committee for
the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and the ERISA Advisory
Council of the Department of Labor representing the accounting profession. As of
April 2020 she is the consulting CPA on staff for the Colorado Society of CPAs
overseeing their peer review program. Marilee earned her B.S. in economics and
her M.B.A. in accounting from Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, CA.
Mr.
Aron has over thirty years of experience with EBSA working with audits of
ERISA-covered plans. As the Chief, Division of Accounting Services, Mr. Aron’s
responsibilities include implementation of EBSA’s CPA Firm Inspection Program,
providing technical assistance to plan filers and plan professionals, and
providing ERISA-related accounting and auditing expertise within EBSA.
Mr. Aron is a certified public accountant and holds a B.B.A. degree with
a major in accounting from the College of William and Mary in Virginia.
With
more 25 years of investment experience as both a certified financial planner and
retirement plan advisor, Sam Valeo is among a select few of Financial Advisors
at Morgan Stanley to earn the Corporate Retirement Director title. His knowledge
has earned him recognition throughout the retirement plan industry.
EXPERIENCE
Since 1991, Sam has been dedicated to working with Plan
Sponsors and advising on their retirement benefit needs. An experienced
instructor, he began by teaching the employees at many Fortune 500 organizations
about the benefits of their retirement plan, developed and taught a 7-week
investment course for Wabaunsee Community College and Lyons Township. He is
recognized as a leader in corporate retirement plans. He has been recognized by
The Financial Times as on of the Top 401 Advisors in the country every year
since 2016.
EDUCATION
A graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a B.S. in
Finance, Sam went on to earn his CFP in 1996, and received the Certified
investment Manager Analyst designation through the Wharton School of business at
the University of Pennsylvania in 2002. He achieved the designation of Chartered
Retirement Plan Specialist in 2008.
PERSONAL INTERESTS
Sam is dedicated to improving the financial
security of retirement plan participants. He is regular speaker at industry
events such as PlanAdvisor Conference, Illinois CPA Society Pension Conference,
and hosts a quarterly webinar briefing for PlanSponsors.
A native of
Chicago, Sam currently lives in Hinsdale, Illinois, with his wife and their
three children. In his leisure time, he enjoys travel, platform tennis and
working on the family farm.
Bill
Zorc is a manager in the Accounting Services Department of Marcum, LLP,
specializing in the administration of Defined Contribution retirement plans, as
well as being a supervisor related to the Employee Benefit Plan audit area.
Bill specializes in helping clients select the retirement plan that best
suits their needs. Whether for a sole-proprietor or a 300 employee company,
Bill’s highly personalized approach means clients are sure to find the plan that
maximizes benefits to the company and its employees at a reasonable cost.
In addition to defined contribution plan design, Bill uses his extensive
experience – which includes more than 30 years in the employee benefits field –
to implement, administer and comply with government regulations for Marcum’s
diverse client base. Bill's expertise extends to consulting with clients on
recordkeeping conversion processes and employee benefit communications. Bill
also consults with clients regarding Flexible Spending and HSA accounts, SEP
plans, and issues related to IRA distributions and eligibility.
As
a Managing Director in Grant Thornton's Chicago office, Cassie is responsible
for providing expert benefit plan audit services for clients throughout the
country. She serves multiple plans ranging in size from $100 thousand in net
assets to over $1 billion in net assets. The nature of these plans include
defined contribution, profit-sharing, defined benefit pensions, employee stock
ownership and health and welfare plans. Prior to re-joining Grant Thornton in
2019, Cassie was an audit partner and employee benefit plan leader with Holtzman
Partners in Austin, Texas.
Cassie has over 15 years leading both
employee benefit plan audit engagements as well as corporate audit engagements
for clients in the technology, life-sciences, consumer industrial products and
not-for-profit sectors.
Cassie also is the local office champion for
Grant Thornton’s Veteran’s Business Resource Group in Chicago.

Cassie received her Bachelor of Science degree in business
administration with a major in accounting from Indiana University, Purdue
University – Fort Wayne.
Alex
Brosseau is a Senior Manager in the Tax Policy Group of Deloitte Tax LLP’s
Washington National Tax office. In that capacity, he monitors tax policy
developments in Congress and the White House on behalf of the firm and its
clients.
From
2012 to 2015, Alex served as Senior Analyst for Tax Policy on the U.S. Senate
Budget Committee where he was the primary tax adviser to the committee’s two
previous chairpersons, Senator Patty Murray of Washington and Senate Finance
Committee member Kent Conrad of North Dakota.
While
on the Budget Committee, Alex led tax and revenue policy for the committee’s
majority during many negotiations including those related to tax extenders, tax
reform, and the Senate-passed fiscal year 2014 budget resolution. He also played
a significant role in the policy discussions that led to enactment of the
Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013.
Prior
to his time on Capitol Hill, Alex worked in client service at Deloitte Tax LLP,
focusing primarily on clients in the financial services and real estate
industries.
Alex
is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He received his Master of Science in
taxation from American University (Washington, DC) and his Bachelor of Arts in
accounting and economics from the University of Saint Thomas (Saint Paul,
Minnesota).
