Inherited IRA’S: Tax Planning and Asset Protection Issues

At this meeting Gary R. Waitzman will discuss the case of “Clark v. Rameker” which deals with inherited IRA’s and Roth IRA’s, particularly why they are not exempt in bankruptcy.  In addition, he will evaluate choices of proper tax advice against the loss of asset protection?  Furthermore, Gary will suggest Asset Protection Strategies State by State.

Mr. Waitzman has spoken at and conducted numerous seminars on estate and tax planning and holds monthly continuing education classes for Financial Advisors and Insurance Agents.  He is former president and director of the Village of Wheeling Chamber of Commerce and currently he is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), Northwest Suburban Estate Planning Council (NWSECPC), National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys, American Association of Attorney – Certified Public Accountants (AAA-CPA), Illinois State Bar Association, The American Bar Association, The Northwest Suburban Bar Association, Illinois State Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, The Senior Service Coalition for Lake County, and a member of the MPS Organization.

Gary is a founding principal of the Law Offices of Gary Waitzman, LLC in Lincolnshire, Illinois. Gary prides himself on providing the guidance, compassion counseling and expertise necessary to understand and achieve planning goals. His practice focuses on estate planning, asset protection and wealth management as well as Medicaid planning, pet trusts, philanthropy, business representation, and legacy planning.  He is licensed in both Illinois and Wisconsin. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1973.  He earned his CPA license in 1975 and his J.D. from John Marshall Law School in 1979. Mr. Waitzman spent 10 years at a regional public accounting firm and 14 years as a managing partner of a 40 attorney law firm which has enabled him to specialize in the legal, accounting and administration needs of his clients.  He co-founded his first law firm in 1983.
