CHICAGO, June 28, 2022 – The Illinois CPA Society (ICPAS) is pleased to award $109,500 in tuition scholarships through the CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois to 56 accounting students at Illinois colleges and universities who demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership qualities, and financial need.
While most of the scholarships reward college upperclassmen interested in pursuing the CPA credential, ICPAS’ growing focus on strengthening the pipeline of diverse accounting students awarded nine scholarships to racial and ethnic minority high school seniors who are planning to major in accounting this fall. These scholarships for incoming freshmen aim to increase awareness of the accounting profession among minority students and prepare them for success as they begin their college careers.
All these scholarships are possible thanks to the generous giving of nearly 1,200 donors who support the CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois. Donor contributions also support initiatives like ICPAS’ CPA Exam Award Program and Mary T. Washington Wylie Internship Preparation Program, which help students and CPA candidates transition into the profession by enhancing their business skills and providing financial aid toward their CPA exam preparation and testing.
“We believe helping students overcome the financial burdens associated with gaining a higher education is a key element in bringing positive change to our communities and the accounting profession,” says Todd Shapiro, ICPAS president and CEO. “It’s so rewarding to be able to aid and reward these students who are clearly determined to join and succeed in the accounting profession. We look forward to seeing them achieve their academic and career goals.”
