Scott Reeser is a senior project manager with the
Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) in Norwalk, Connecticut. He is
currently working on GASB projects related to the reexamination of the financial
reporting model and infrastructure assets. Previously, he has worked on several
projects, including those leading to statements on accounting and financial
reporting for postemployment benefits, fiduciary activities, and transactions
reported as deferred outflows of resources and deferred inflows of resources.
Before joining the staff of the GASB in 2010, Mr. Reeser spent ten years working
for the Office of the Comptroller in the State of Illinois. During that time,
Mr. Reeser was responsible for the coordination and preparation of the state’s
Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and the development of statewide
accounting policies. His previous experience also includes over five years with
a public accounting firm performing financial and compliance audits of
not-for-profit entities and governmental agencies. Mr. Reeser is a graduate of
the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is a member of the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA
Society.
Courtney Mohr is a Principal at Lauterbach & Amen,
LLP. and has over 8 years of professional accounting experience serving clients
in the governmental and nonprofit sector, including audits of municipalities,
park districts, pension funds, and nonprofit entities. She has also served as
the lead in financial services roles. Additionally, Courtney is a Certified
Public Accountant, member of the Illinois CPA Society and a Young Professional
Ambassador, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants.
Brad Porter is a Principal at Lauterbach & Amen,
LLP. and has over 10 years of professional accounting experience serving clients
in the governmental sector, including audits of municipalities, park districts,
school districts, nonprofit entities and pension funds. Additionally, Brad is a
Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Illinois CPA Society and the
American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Hollis Hanson-Pollock, CPA is a senior manager at Crowe
LLP, where she focuses on providing audit and consulting services to
municipalities, community colleges, school districts, and transportation
agencies. In 2020 she completed a two-year fellowship with the Governmental
Accounting Standards Board (GASB), where she worked primarily on projects
related to revenue and expense recognition, leases, and the replacement of
interbank offered rates. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified
Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society and is a licensed CPA in the
state of Illinois.
Geoffrey ‘Geof’ Brown, CAE, is president
and CEO of the Illinois CPA Society (ICPAS), one
of the largest state CPA societies in the nation. Brown
also serves as president and CEO of CPAs for the Public
Interest and ex-officio board member of the CPA Endowment
Fund of Illinois.
A seasoned certified association executive (CAE), Brown has more than 20
years of experience as an association professional. Before joining ICPAS in
2022, he served as CEO of the National Association of Personal Financial
Advisors (NAPFA), the nation’s leading professional association of fee-only
financial advisors, for nine years. Prior to NAPFA, Brown was an account
executive with Sentergroup, an association manager at SmithBucklin Corporation,
and held multiple positions with North-American Interfraternity Conference.
Brown served as the board chair for Association Forum and is an active
member. He is also an active member in the American Society of Association
Executives and is a board member for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago and the
Association of Fraternal Leadership & Values. Brown earned his bachelor’s
degree in government and politics from the University of
Maryland.
David R. Bean, CPA, is the chief executive officer of Governmental
Accounting Research, LLC, a consulting and training firm dedicated to public
sector accounting and financial reporting activities. Prior to his retirement
from the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), David served as the
GASB director of research and technical activities for over 30 years. Prior to
joining the GASB, David worked in public accounting and government. He also has
served as Deputy Chairman of the International Public Sector Accounting
Standards Board (IPSASB). He was the lead author on the 1988 Governmental
Accounting, Auditing and Financial Reporting (Blue Book) and was the founder of
the GAAFR Review newsletter. He was the last director of the National Council on
Governmental Accounting before the formation of the GASB in 1984. David is a
licensed CPA in Illinois and member of the Government Finance Officers
Association, the Illinois Government Finance Officers Association, the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois CPA Society, the AGA,
the National Federation of Municipal Analysts, and the Municipal Analysts Group
of New York.
Dan Nugent is an Assistant Professor of Accounting and
Business Law at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He holds both a Juris
Doctor and a Certified Public Accountant designation, bringing a unique and
valuable perspective to the intersection of law and accounting. On campus, he
teaches Business Law, Intermediate Accounting, Auditing, and Governmental and
Nonprofit Accounting. His research focuses on the development of case studies in
diverse subject areas including ethics, professional misconduct, and financial
frauds.
Brian Dempsey, CPA/CFF/ABV, CFE
Mr. Dempsey is a Senior Manager within RSM US LLP’s national office. He
consults with engagement teams on significant audit risk matters including,
fraud, noncompliance, cybersecurity incidents, litigation, bankruptcy, and other
conditions or transactions that present heightened risk to the firm’s clients or
the audit. Mr. Dempsey serves as a liaison between the engagement teams and
legal counsel, and assists with reports to firm leadership and general counsel’s
office regarding root causes, lessons learned and recommended remediation for
various audit issues. Mr. Dempsey also assists with maintaining the firm’s audit
and attest manuals and developing tools and guidance to enhance audit quality
and efficiency and mitigate the firm’s risk. Additionally, he also develops and
facilitates nationally sponsored training. With over 24 years of public
accounting experience, Mr. Dempsey has provided audit and other assurance
services to public and private companies, serving small and large clients across
many industries. He has also provided forensic accounting and litigation support
services, including to nationally recognized law firms engaged in high-profile
fraud cases. Mr. Dempsey founded and operated his own certified public
accounting firm for seven years and spent one year at the American Institute of
Certified Public Accounts, contributing to the Uniform CPA Examination. He holds
a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and minor in Economics from University of
Delaware and volunteers on the board of a not-for-profit focused on providing
pet therapy services to individuals in need.
Martin Green, Esq., Moderator, Vice President, Government Relations, Illinois
CPA Society, Martin “Marty” Green serves as Vice President of Government
Relations for the Illinois CPA Society. As the Vice President of Government
Relations, Marty works with the CEO and Board of Directors of the Society to
oversee and implement the legislative and regulatory activities of the Illinois
CPA Society serving the interest of its more than 24,000 CPA and finance
members. Green previously served as Executive Assistant Attorney General for
Illinois Attorneys General Lisa Madigan and Jim Ryan. A graduate of Western
Illinois University and Saint Louis University Law School, he is a practicing
lawyer and member of the Illinois Bar. He holds a number of professional
certifications and is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts.
Green is also a Colonel with the Illinois Air National Guard, and an Eagle
Scout. He is the past president of the Western Illinois University Alumni
Council and is an Adjunct Professor for the Department of Health Sciences.
