Damien R.
Martin, CPA provides tax compliance, consulting and planning services to
individuals, families and fiduciaries and provide proactive succession planning
for high-net-worth individuals and their family owned businesses as a leader of
BKD's Private Client Services Team. He also serves on the practice development
teams of BKD Family Office—a fully integrated suite of services designed to
assist affluent clients manage and transfer multigenerational wealth—and
BKDnext—an intentional & thoughtful process designed to create financial
security for a client's family, business and future.
Damien the host of Simply
Tax (www.bkd.com/simplytax), a podcast dedicated to
delivering practical and timely content to simplify tax challenges. He also
spent the last three years serving in BKD's National Office where he focused
heavily on the 2017 tax overhaul.
Damien is a member of the
American Institute of CPAs, where he currently serves on the Tax Profession
Strategic Advisory Group, and the Illinois CPA Society, where he has served on
the Estate, Gift and Trusts Committee, participated in the Firm Ambassador
Program and am the former chair of the Young Leaders Advisory
Council.
Alex Brosseau is a Senior Manager in the Tax Policy Group
of Deloitte Tax LLP’s Washington National Tax office. In that capacity, he
monitors tax policy developments in Congress and the White House on behalf of
the firm and its clients. From 2012 to 2015, Alex served as Senior Analyst for
Tax Policy on the U.S. Senate Budget Committee where he was the primary tax
adviser two of the committee’s previous chairpersons, Senator Patty Murray of
Washington and Senate Finance Committee member Kent Conrad of North Dakota.
While on the Budget Committee, Alex led tax and revenue policy for the
committee’s majority during many negotiations including those related to tax
extenders, tax reform, and the Senate-passed fiscal year 2014 budget resolution.
He also played a significant role in the policy discussions that led to
enactment of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013. Prior to his time on Capitol
Hill, Alex worked in client service at Deloitte Tax LLP, focusing primarily on
clients in the financial services and real estate industries. Alex is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He
received his Master of Science in taxation from American University (Washington, DC)
and his Bachelor of Arts in accounting and economics from the University of
Saint Thomas (Saint Paul, Minnesota).
Elizabeth Stanier, Senior Accountant in the Commercial Services Group of
Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP, has been in public accounting since 2004. She
specializes in serving professional services firms, interior design firms, and
other service industry businesses with their compliance needs. Elizabeth reviews
federal and state tax returns for C and S Corporations and Partnerships,
conducts federal and state tax research to assist with tax planning
opportunities and consultation, supervises various staff on projects and
compliance engagements, and coordinates projects and work-flow directly with
clients.
Larry J. Wolfe, CPA, is with the Skokie based firm of Larry J. Wolfe, Ltd
established in 1982. His practice specializes in tax controversy. Larry’s
concentration is tax resolution in collection and exam matters with the Internal
Revenue Service and State taxing agencies. Representation includes examinations
at federal level of income tax and various matters with the Appeals Division.
Larry’s experience with collection matters includes offer in compromise, penalty
abatement, installment agreements, trust fund recovery penalty defense,
applications of discharges and subordinations, right of redemption,
non-attachment, claim for refunds, levy and lien releases. Larry’s experience
with collection matters regarding the Illinois Department of Revenue includes
Petitions to Board of Appeals, installment agreements, penalty abatements and
specific property releases. Larry also authored three manuals and taught
seminars regarding IRS representation in Collections, Examinations and Appeals.
Larry is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and
the Illinois Society of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Wolfe sits on the IRS
Practice and Procedure Committee and the State Taxation Committee for the
Illinois Society of CPA’s. Larry graduated from the University of Illinois in
1977 with a BS in Accounting and a minor in Biology.
Deb
is a Risk Control Consulting Director for the Accountants Professional Liability
Insurance Program of Continental Casualty Company, a CNA company and the
underwriter of the AICPA Professional Liability Insurance Program. She
previously practiced public accounting for 19 years with regional public
accounting firms. As a state and local tax (SALT) practice leader with a
regional public accounting firm, Deb provided consulting and compliance services
to clients in a variety of industries including but not limited to
manufacturing, distribution, professional services and transportation. She has
conducted presentations at various AICPA and state CPA society conferences and
has authored numerous articles. Deb provides risk control consulting services
for CPA firms in the AICPA program. She participates in the development and
delivery of risk management training and education products including the live
risk management seminar and self-study programs. Education and Credentials :
