Diversity Program Prepares College Students Interested in Accounting: The Illinois CPA Society is Seeking Applicants

CHICAGO, October 4, 2019 The award-winning Mary T. Washington Wylie Internship Preparation Program is a golden opportunity for racial and ethnic minority college students who want to make their way into the accounting and finance profession.

The Illinois CPA Society is seeking qualified applicants for its next program, being held January 6-8, 2020 in Chicago. The application is available at www.icpas.org/mtww and the deadline is November 11, 2019.

This all-expenses paid program prepares 25 students with key skills needed to obtain and succeed in accounting internships. Highlights from the agenda include motivational keynote remarks, young professional real-world experiences, team building exercises, resume advice, and interview coaching. The following organizations will be presenting sessions and interviewing students for a variety of paid accounting internships: Abbott, Crowe LLPDeloitte LLPErnst & Young LLPGrant Thornton LLPKPMG LLPPwC LLP, and Sikich LLP. Additionally, participants receive a professional headshot and a $500 scholarship to help with educational expenses.

“In only three days, our program scholars learn a great deal about the CPA profession and how to navigate their way from being students to becoming professionals,” said Kari Natale, Senior Director, CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see our participants become more motivated, confident, and better prepared than they ever realized was possible.”

The Internship Preparation Program is funded by donations to the CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois’ Mary T. Washington Wylie Opportunity Fund, which honors Mrs. Washington Wylie’s legacy by offering opportunities that help advance diversity in the accounting profession.

The CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded in 1998 by Illinois CPA Society members. The Fund was created to ensure ongoing funding for scholarship and outreach programs. The programs are geared toward encouraging individuals to choose accounting as a career choice and achieve the CPA credential.
